Mykola Tomenko the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine directed the appeals to the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych with the request to explain the situation on awarding the religious men, foreign citizens by the President of Ukraine after the results of the presidential campaign.
As it is known, M. Tomenko repeatedly pointed out the attention to the problem of involvement of the foreign citizens into the election campaign. Recently there have been a lot of new in mass media regarding the active participation of religion organizations, in particular those headed by the foreign citizens in the presidential campaign. Thus, recently a lot of mass media like "Ukainska Pravda" and many other reported on the awarding of the of gratitude certificates on behalf of the President of Ukraine "for the active participation in the presidential campaign 2010 " to the leaders and ministers of religious worships.
The special attention according to M. Tomenko should be paid to the fact that according to the published video recording, among the rewarded there is a leader of the religious organization "The Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations" (Kyiv city) Sunday Adelaja, who is a citizen of Nigeria.
The Deputy Chairman noticed that the clause 64 of the Law of Ukraine "On Elections of the President of Ukraine" prohibits participation of non-citizens of Ukraine in the political campaigns. Moreover, the Law of Ukraine "On Liberty of Conscience and Religious Organizations" in clause 5 defines certain number of restrictions for the religious organizations in the sphere of the political activity.
M. Tomenko is convinced that there is a serious questions for the consideration regarding the fact whether the broad informative campaign on these events is not aimed at the influence on the investigation of the criminal case against Sunday Adelaja who is suspected in organization and acquisition of citizens´ funds in a dishonest way.
Taking into the consideration the social resonance and ambiguity of such events, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine directed the appeal to the President of Ukraine with the request to specify whether the awarding of the indicated above person really took place for the "assistance in conduction of the presidential campaign 2010" and if the fact is true, explain on what legal basis the following decision was adopted.
